Car Project

Here is some helpful advice on your car project:

Insurance: Don’t use your real name. Use 04401 for zip code. Don’t need Social security number.

http://www.geico.com/landingpage/go5.htm?soa=42920&SOURCE=goog&KEYWORD=insurance%20quotes&gclid=CODZ36ubqIgCFR8NTAodOSdWRw

Taxes: After you’ve selected all of your options and added up the price of the car, you need to add in the Sales Tax. (5%)

Financing: You don’t need to apply for financing. Just go to this site and select which kind of car you’re getting. You need to multiply the total price (including taxes) of your car (not including your insurance) by the finance rate and then add that number to the total price.

Drivers’ Ed: There are several driving schools in the area.

In this project you will choose a car to buy and decide what the "hidden" expenses will be. You have several worksheets to complete. There are recommended resources on insurance, maintenance, and financing but you can use other resources as well.

3d Tic Tac Toe Toc

See if you can figure this out.
http://www.mathcats.com/explore/puzzles/3dtictactoe.html

Watch this!

Can you prove that 25 divided by 5 is 14? Try it and then watch this video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M02GqSvjauk

The sum of three consecutive numbers is 45. What are the integers?
X + X + 1 + X +2 = 45
3x + 3 = 45
3x = 42
x = 14 x +1 = 15 x+2 = 16 14 + 15 + 16 = 45

The sum of three consecutive odd integers is 69. What are the integers? You have 5 minutes.

Horatios!!

Check out this great site for understanding ratios:

http://math.rice.edu/~lanius/proportions/index.html

I want you to work your way through making sure that you do the problem solving activity and the quiz.

Is the slope of a linear equation (linear function) a ratio? Explain.

Fun and Sun

Dateline: Monday Sept. 18

Today we're going to explore the graph worksheet you had last Friday. First let's go to the website and play around with the numbers.

http://math.rice.edu/~lanius/Algebra/rentacarja.html

Now look at the two printouts of graphs based on the data from the Rent a Car problem. What are the differences between them? What are the similarities? Which is the correct graph? Why? How did I come up with the equations? ---When answering this question you might need to refresh your memory by going through this link:
http://www.math.com/school/subject2/lessons/S2U4L3GL.html

Parents and Students

In math class today we worked on a graphing activity called "Fun and Sun." Students were given time to work on the activity in class and if they didn't complete the assignement it became homework. In order to complete the assignment students should have a "Fun and Sun" worksheet and some graph paper. This is due Monday, Sept. 18. We will also have our first quiz on graphing on Mon. Sept. 18.

In Civics class we are doing a timeline on the subject "On the Day I was born......" Students should try to find political and governmental events that occured on the day they were born. They should have at least ten events. Five of the events should deal with politics and government. Click on this link to find a help sheet for timelines:

Fun with Fractions?

Here is a website to go to for practice with fractions. Today I'd like everyone to go through all the parts of this tutorial.

On the day I was born.....

This is a writing activity we did in Civics class on 9/14/06. Students should find historical and governmental events that happened on the day they were born. They didn't have to limit themselves to the year they were born, just the day.

New Slope Calculator

Please go to this website and work on adding positive and negative integers.
http://aaaknow.com/add65_x2.htm

When we finish with this I want you to get your finding slope papers out and using the calculators on your computers change all your fraction answers to decimals.(You do this by dividing the top number by the bottom number). Leave the whole number answers as they are.

After that please go to http://www.1728.com/distance.htm and check all of your answers on your computer.

Remember that this web-site will give you the slope as a decimal.

Somerset Math

Use this site to graph equations. Make sure to click edit to erase a line.

http://www.gcalc.net

This is the Thomas Jefferson site for Civics--- http://teacher.scholastic.com/webquest/socstudies/tjefferson.htm
We're going to be using this site for a few days starting 9/13/06 to study the life and times of Thomas Jefferson. The first day we're going to answer some questions about Jefferson and read one day in "A Day In The Life" section. We're also going to explore the links that are in the reading.

This site helps with graphing: http://www.usiouxfalls.edu/~jebuckley/internet_scavhunt.htm
You can find out about slope and do some practice online.
